I couldn't show them my company portal because our company's SSO didn't let us log in from China (or have work stuff on my personal phone), and I'm fully remote so I didn't have my badge. They asked me for my email and sent an email to make sure it didn't bounce back before checking me in."

I’m a globalist and find they just want to see badge as an ask vs actually verifying ID badge. Seems it is different for each person based on comments.
